This adaptation, however, benefits not only from a great cast, but also an incredible, decidedly un-swinging 1966 London setting.

More of a crime/mystery/thriller, anyway.Watching James Mason and Harry Andrews doing detective work in grim, rainy, not-swinging 60s London was a perfect cozy night's entertainment.Loved the scenes in the drab pub, the grimy garage after dark with Roy Kinnear, and all the scenes in Simone Signoret's House. Sets out with some intent to look at non-monogamy in a pragmatic light (and through the lens of an espionage thriller...) but gets pretty tedious and muddled pretty quick.Lumet does what he does, and he does it well.
